Magicman London
Hard Surface Repair Services in London
On-site repair for scratches, dents, chips and gouges on wood, laminate and engineered floors
If you work in construction, property management or refurbishment in London, you will have come across the term Magicman. It is the name most site managers, project managers and snagging coordinators reach for when they need on-site hard surface repairs – chips, scratches, burns, water damage, bath repairs, floor restoration. The kind of work that prevents a replacement and gets a unit signed off.
Magic Restore offers the same range of hard surface repair services across London, Essex and Kent. We are an independent specialist – not a franchise, not a call centre – and we carry out all work in-situ, on site, without removing the item. If you are looking for a Magicman-type service in London and want to speak directly with the person doing the work, this page explains what we do and how we work.

What Is a Magicman-Type Service?
The term Magicman has become shorthand in the UK construction and property industry for a specific type of tradesperson: someone who repairs hard surfaces on site rather than replacing them. The work typically covers:
-
Worktop chips, burns and scratches – on laminate, solid wood, Corian and composite surfaces
-
Bath and sink repairs – chips, cracks and surface crazing on acrylic, enamel and ceramic
-
Door and frame damage – impact chips, paint damage, veneer lifting
-
Floor repairs – scratches, gouges and lifting on hardwood, engineered wood and LVT
-
Tile repair – chips, cracks and grout damage on ceramic and porcelain wall and floor tiles
-
French polishing and lacquer touch-up – colour matching and sheen blending on furniture and joinery
-
Spraying services – recoating doors, panels, units and surfaces in-situ
-
Construction snagging – working through defect lists at practical completion stage
All of this is what Magic Restore does. We cover the same scope of work and use the same approach: assess the damage, match the colour and grain, repair in-situ, blend the finish. The goal is always to make the repair as unobtrusive as possible so the surface passes inspection and the client is satisfied.
Why Some Clients Look for an Independent Specialist
Magicman is a large national company with a structured booking system. For many clients that works well. But there are situations where an independent specialist is a better fit:
Direct communication
When you call Magic Restore, you speak with the technician. There is no scheduling department between you and the person carrying out the repair. If you need to explain a specific finish, describe the substrate or send photos for a quote, that conversation happens directly. For complex jobs or urgent snagging lists, this matters.
Flexibility on smaller jobs
Large companies sometimes have minimum call-out values or longer lead times. If you have a single chip on a worktop or a bath that needs a quick repair before a tenant moves in, an independent operator can often be more flexible on scheduling and price.
Local knowledge of London properties
Working in London flats, period conversions, new-build developments and commercial showrooms each presents different access conditions. Parking, lift restrictions, working hours set by building management – these are everyday realities. Magic Restore is based in Essex and works regularly across Central London, East London, Kent and the surrounding areas. We are used to the conditions.
Services We Provide Across London
Worktop Repair
Chips, burns and deep scratches on laminate, solid wood, quartz and Corian worktops. Colour matched and finished to the existing sheen level. Work carried out in the kitchen without removal. We cover all worktop materials found in London new builds and period conversions. See our Worktop Repair London page for more detail.
Bath and Sink Repair
Surface chips and cracks on acrylic baths, enamel baths and ceramic basins. A common snagging item in new builds and a frequent requirement in rental properties at end of tenancy. Repairs are carried out in-situ using materials suited to wet environment exposure. See our Bath and Sink Repair London page.
French Polishing and Furniture Repair
Scratches, watermarks, veneer lifting and impact damage on furniture, joinery and fitted units. This covers both traditional shellac French polish work and modern lacquer finishes. Grain recreation and sheen matching are part of the process where required. See our French Polishing London page for a full explanation of what this involves.
Floor Repair and Restoration
Gouges, scratches and surface wear on hardwood, engineered wood and luxury vinyl tile. We work in residential properties, commercial spaces and new-build developments. Repairs are done in-situ without sanding the full floor. See our Floor Repair London page.
Tile Repair
Chips, cracks and hairline fractures on ceramic and porcelain wall and floor tiles. Tile repair is common on construction snagging lists and in rental properties where individual tiles have been damaged without requiring full replacement. Colour matching on tiles can be more demanding than other surfaces, and results depend on the tile finish and extent of the damage. We carry out an honest assessment before proceeding.
Door and Frame Repair
Impact chips, hinge damage and paint defects on internal and external doors. A standard item on most snagging lists. Colour matched and lacquered to blend with the surrounding finish.
Spraying Services
In-situ respraying of doors, panels, kitchen units and furniture. This is useful where a surface has aged, been repainted poorly, or needs a full colour change without replacement. See our Spraying Services London page.
Laminate Surface Repair
Chips, lifting edges and surface damage on laminate panels, furniture and wall cladding. Laminate is one of the most common substrates in London rental properties and new build developments. Repairs are carried out in-situ and colour matched to the existing pattern where possible.
Construction Site Snagging
We work regularly with main contractors and finishing teams on snagging lists at practical completion. This typically involves moving through a schedule of defects across multiple units – worktops, baths, floors, doors, tiles – and signing off repairs efficiently so the handover can proceed. We hold CSCS accreditation and public liability insurance, which is a standard requirement for site access.
How We Work on Site in London
Most repairs are carried out in a single visit. The process is straightforward:
-
We assess the damage in person or from photos sent in advance
-
We match the colour using professional tints and reference against the existing surface
-
We fill and level the damaged area using the appropriate filler for the substrate
-
Where required, we recreate grain or texture to match the surrounding surface
-
We apply finish coats and blend the sheen to match
-
We allow adequate curing time before the area is put back into use
Most repairs involve minimal disruption. There is usually a small amount of product odour during application, which clears within a few hours. Dust is minimal on most repair work, though floor sanding or heavy surface preparation can produce more. We work around access restrictions, building management rules and occupied property requirements.
What We Cannot Fix
It is worth being straightforward about this. Hard surface repair is not the right solution for everything.
-
Chipboard or MDF that has swollen significantly from sustained water exposure usually cannot be repaired to a satisfactory standard – replacement is the better option
-
Structural cracks that move with the building or substrate will reopen after repair
-
Surfaces with extensive damage across a large area may cost more to repair than to replace, depending on the material
-
Areas with continuous water exposure and no surface coating left are unlikely to hold a repair for long
-
Tiles with significant subsurface cracking or hollow spots – the surface repair will not address the underlying instability
If we assess the damage and conclude that repair is not the right approach, we will say so. There is no benefit in carrying out work that will not last.

About Magic Restore
Magic Restore is a hard surface repair specialist with around eight years of trade experience. We hold an NVQ in Damage Repair and Resurfacing, CSCS accreditation and public liability insurance. All work is carried out directly by our technicians – we do not subcontract.
We work with homeowners, landlords, letting agents, property managers, main contractors and construction finishing teams. Our approach is practical and direct: assess the damage honestly, carry out the repair to the best standard achievable, and be clear about what the result will look like before we start.
We do not promise invisible repairs every time. The quality of a repair depends on the substrate, the extent of the damage and the finish being matched. What we do is give you an honest assessment upfront and carry out the work to a professional standard.
